About Ayurveda

Widely regarded as the oldest form of healthcare in the world, Ayurveda is an intricate medical system which uses the inherent principles of nature, to help maintain health in a person by keeping the individual's body, mind and spirit in perfect equilibrium with nature. Originally from India, Ayurveda is currently experiencing world-wide popularity as a revival sweeps in all continents. The word "Ayurveda" is from the ancient Indian language, Sanskrit, and literally means "Knowledge of Life". Preferring to focus on the type of person who has the disease, rather than just understanding the type of disease the person has, Ayurveda is a patient-orientated system of healing. The aim of this system is to prevent illness, heal the sick and preserve life which can be summed up as follows:

"Swasthyas swasthya rakshanam" (To protect health and prolong life)

"Aturasya vikar prashamanamcha"( To eliminate diseases and dysfunctions of the body )

Basic Principles of Ayurveda:
Ayurveda sees the human body as a mystique blend of the five basic elements; sky, water, earth , air and fire. In perfect equilibrium, the body houses the universal consciousness and echoes the harmony of nature. It is regulated by the three bio-regulating principles of thridoshas. The five elements which compose the human body are combined in such a way as to form the three humors which control all the processes of health and disease. The elements combine with Ether and Air in dominance to form what is known in Ayurveda as Vata Dosha. Vata governs the principle of movement and therefore can be seen as the force which directs nerve impulses, circulation, respiration and elemination etc.

The elements with Fire and Water in dominance combine to form the Pitta Dosha which is responsible for the process of transformation or metabolism. Finally, it is predominantly the water and earth elements which combine to form the Kapha Dosha. Kapha is responsible for growth, adding structure unit by unit. The body tries to maintain a dynamic equilibrium of the three forces which are susceptible to changes in the external and internal environment.

Ayurveda teaches a very systematic and scientific way of life which is important to pursue both materially and spiritually. Fundamental principles, health rules, knowledge of individual constitution of our body, use of various herbs, minerals and specially Panch Karma therapy can be very safely used by one and all, all over the world to, promote good health, prevent diseases and acquire longevity.
