  • What is Ayurvastra?
    Ayurvastra is an ancient technique of dyeing textiles in medicinal herbs. "Ayurvastra" is based on the Ayurvedic principle that regular contact with a cloth made from the yarns infused with organic herbs and medicinal plant extracts will relieve metabolic disorders and threads a new line of healthy living.
  • Does Ayurvastra really work?
    The State of Kerala Coir Department reported on a six-month clinical trial initiated by the Ministry of Health at the Government Ayurveda College in Thiruvananthapuram India on patients suffering from rheumatism, allergy, hypertension, diabetes, psoriasis and other skin ailments. For the study, all clothes, bed linens and mattresses for the resident subjects were dyed in Ayurvastra herbs and the walls, floors and ceilings in the patient/subjects’ rooms were lined with Ayurvastra coir mats so that the patient were surrounded by Ayurvastra medicated materials. According to Dr. Vishwanathan, the former Dean of the Drug Research Department at Ayurveda College, "We treated around 40 people. And the response was remarkably good, especially in cases of arthritis and skin ailments."
  • How does ayurvastra work?
    Conventional Western medicine and traditional Eastern medicine recognize the skin as being the body’s largest organ. The skin functions as a protective barrier but also as a conduit for outside substances to enter the body. In the same way the skin absorb environmental toxins and chemicals from conventional clothing; it has the ability to absorb herbs found in our natural dyes. Ayurvastra improve the skin’s natural ability to block and resist harmful chemicals and toxins from entering the body will be beneficial to health.
  • Are all your textiles hand loomed and organic?
    All our Ayurvastra products are hand loomed and 100 percent organic.
  • Which herbs are most commonly used for Ayurvastra?
    The roots, flowers, leaves, seeds and barks of around 200 herbs are used to make the dyes. Since the natural herbs are generally found in very beautiful shades. The shades can further be lightened or darkened from the same single herb by adding more or less quantity of the particular herb.
  • Are Ayurvastra products expensive?

  • How long does it take before the cloth looses its ayurvedic effect?
    The cloth does not loose its effect even after constant use because the medicinal dyes are absorbed into the yarn itself. The yarn is first dipped in the herbal dyes and the finished fabric is dipped again.
  • How can I best take care of my Ayurvastra products?
    We recommend using organic soap for washing Ayurvastra cloth. Wash separately with bleach-free detergent. For machine wash, use gentle cycle. The cloth can be ironed with a warm iron; steam ironing is ideal. Iron to shape and dry in shade.
  • Can I get an allergic reaction to Ayurvastra?
    At present, we have not received any reports of allergic reactions to Ayurvastra.
  • Does these products having light fastness?
    Herbal dyes are mainly having carotenoids, flavonoids, indigoids or quinoid structures. Although flavonoid compounds are not very lightfast, quinoids and indigoids are noted for their excellent fastness properties.
  • Can I get all colours for each disease?
    Not all dresses are applied for same ailments. The colour of the Ayurvastra is gained from the medicinal preparation only and no other colourants are used. So we can not give all colours for all diseases.
  • Effluent Treatment
    The entire process is organic. It does not pollute the environment like synthetic dye. And the waste is used as bio manure and also to generate bio gas.

    The technology for making Ayurvastra is being utilised for making coir mats, mattresses, door mats, carpets and fabrics out of bamboo, jute and silk.
